Miller Feels the Heat and Returns Donation - But it's Only a Start
August 30, 2010
DEXTER, IA—Brenna Findley, Republican nominee for Attorney General, today successfully called on attorney general Tom Miller to return thousands of dollars in polluted campaign donations from the DeCosters.
However, Findley questioned why it took him only a matter of hours to return the donations, when he had five whole years to return them to begin with.
“Where there was smoke, there was fire, and Tom Miller felt the heat,” said Findley. However, returning donations out of political expediency does not even begin to address the multitude of other scandals in which his office finds itself currently embroiled.”
Findley released this Top Five list of things Miller needs to do to clean up his office:
1. Return the thousands of dollars in polluted money given by DeCoster. (RETURNED ON AUGUST 30, 2010)
2. Come clean on the actual cost to the taxpayers of the Film Office scandal and to let us know when we can expect a report on the pay for play scandal involving allegations of donations from casino interests to Culver. Culver’s campaign is being managed by one of Miller’s top employees who is on leave from the AG’s office. (STILL AWAITING ACCOUNTABILITY)
3. Explain why he refused to allow Governor Culver to fire Lynn Walding, former head of the Alcoholic Beverages Division, for mismanagement and whether he investigated the underlying allegations. State auditors have investigated the Alcoholic Beverages Division and found improper spending, including tens of thousands of dollars on artwork, leather chairs, bicycles, a camper and high-definition televisions, as well as other improprieties and mismanagement. Walding was formerly a top staffer to AG Miller. (STILL AWAITING ANSWERS)
4. Stop charging taxpayers and the media up to $40 an hour for access to public records. Miller supported allowing the Department on Aging to charge by the hour for access to emails that would shed light on the muzzling of the Ombudsman, even though taxpayers already pay the salaries of state government employees. (STILL DOUBLE BILLING TAXPAYERS)
5. Go to all 99 counties to listen to the concerns of everyday Iowans, like Findley is doing. (STILL HAVEN’T SEEN HIM) |

Findley Calls on AG Miller to Return Thousands in Decoster Donations
August, 30 2010
DEXTER, IA—Republican nominee for Attorney General, Brenna Findley called upon Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller to explain his ties to habitual violator Jack DeCoster and Peter DeCoster. Jack DeCoster is the only person in Iowa ever to be branded a ‘habitual violator’.
Attorney General Miller has claimed that the ‘habitual violator’ classification worked and that it ‘opened up lines of communication’ with the DeCoster family. However, Miller failed to explain why he accepted a donation of $10,000 on December 28, 2005, after DeCoster’s habitual violator status expired, even though Miller did not have an opponent in 2006.
Republican nominee Brenna Findley, who will clean up state government, issued the following statement:
“Justice is not for sale in this state, and habitual violators should not be allowed pollute our politics. The DeCosters created this mess, and Iowans are stuck with cleaning it up, and we’re a national embarrassment as a result. It is time for Tom Miller to step up, finally do the right thing, and return the thousands he received from habitual violator Jack DeCoster.
The Attorney General still has not explained the nature of his relationship with the DeCosters. DeCoster gave Miller’s campaign a $10,000 Christmas present late in 2005, even though no one was running against him.
It is shocking that Miller would accept $10,000 from the DeCosters. Iowans deserve to know what is going on. Iowans deserve an open and transparent political process, free of backscratching and special deals.
It is time to clean house and bring a new crew to the Attorney General’s office. As your Attorney General I will bring honesty, openness and integrity to state government to put an end to the Culture of Corruption in Des Moines.
I will work as your legal watchdog to protect Iowans and hold all accountable. Everyone is equal before the law.” |

Former Vice Presidential Nominee Palin Endorses Brenna Findley
August 18, 2010
Des Moines, IA – Des Moines, IA- Iowa Attorney General Nominee Brenna Findley today said she is glad to accept the endorsement of former Vice Presidential nominee and Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin.
